The Old Jail & Coffee Shop is one of the oldest historical buildings in Riversdale – the original part was built in 1838. In 1860 the state purchased the building and turned it into a jail. The Malherbe family bought the building and converted it into a renowned visitors point in Riversdale.
Today you can enjoy delicious carrot cake, as well as light meals and browse the extensive range of antiques, gifts and plants in the old jail cells. The Old Jail is also a popular venue as it is home to a replica of the gallow which used only once within the history of Riversdale. Families, groups and couples visits the Old Jail frequently due to its unique layout and offerings. The Old Jail is also the ideal venue for functions like birthday receptions, weddings and special functions.
